About Kevin
Born in New York to an Iranian Muslim father and an Irish Catholic mother, Kevin grew up navigating two rich and distinct cultures in suburban Rhode Island. In high school, he spent a transformative year as an exchange student in France, where he grappled with profound homesickness. It was during this time, under the guidance of an inspiring English teacher, that Kevin began writing in earnest—capturing his experiences abroad and crafting stories about imagined characters. This was when he discovered his enduring passion for fiction.
After returning to the U.S., Kevin pursued college and medical school, ultimately becoming an internal medicine specialist. However, the demands of his medical career left little time for creative pursuits. Determined to honor his passion for writing, he took a five-year hiatus from medicine, earned an MFA in Fiction from Boston University, and began publishing short stories in reputable literary magazines.
Transitioning from the short story to the novel proved to be a challenging journey for Kevin, but he stuck with it. He completed the final draft of his debut novel, Secrets From Back Home, a sweeping, multigenerational tale of exile, love, and betrayal set against the backdrop of Persian culture and history.
Today, Kevin balances his time between writing fiction and practicing medicine. He lives in Connecticut with his wife, Julie.

Kevin's father was a masterful storyteller, captivating the family with tales of Mullah Nasruddin—the shrewd yet whimsical folk hero of Persia. Clad in dark robes and a white turban, Nasruddin roamed the countryside, often perched backward on his donkey, dispensing wisdom cloaked in humor. Kevin's favorite tale was the one about the two sides of the river: Mullah Nasruddin sat on a riverbank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side, “Hey, how do I get across?” Incredulous, Nasruddin yelled back, “You are across!” It’s a lesson Kevin holds close—that what we seek is often already within our grasp, if only we can see it.
